Shopify Editions 2023: How to utilise Bundles
Shopify have finally launched their own Bundles App during Editions 2023. A long awaited solution from Shopify to help cure those headaches that many merchants including myself have had, just last summer I worked on a custom bundling feature that was built into a new 2.0 site at a cost - it’s now free!
There have long been solutions already in the Shopify App Store, but those have come at a cost, which, at scale, can be off-putting. Additionally, there are limitations within free plans regarding the number of bundles you can design or how much you can sell (either volume or revenue based).
The Shopify Bundles app is already on the app store free of charge, so let’s look at some of the use cases that could help merchants.
Use cases
Increasing your Average Order Value (AOV)
The most obvious reason behind bundling products is increasing your average order value by ensuring the customer purchases more than one product during their session. To do this, you need to curate your bundles in a complementary manner, for example;
Boots and Boot Cleaner Bundle
Kitchen Appliance Bundle: Chopping Board & Knives
Makeup Bundle: Same Shade Foundation & Concealer
Profitability & Performance Marketing benefit greatly from AOV and therefore bundles, pushing introductory or complementary bundles via your paid marketing could see ROAS improvements.
Sales & Clearances
Bundles are a great way to present offers during or outside of major sales by offering a saving across multiple products within a bundle rather than running hard coded or coupon based discounts on many products. For example you can run a Black Friday Hero Bundle with Top Sellers at an attractive discount or you could run a flash bundle to your VIP email lists for a limited time to boost sales when needed.
This sale focused approach to bundles also allows you to create bundles as a way to clear either old or low-selling inventory with a higher value product similar to gift with purchase. Always remember to make logical pairings within bundles that will be attractive to your customers.
Product Discovery
In addition to the above where you are pushing products into sale bundles and clearances, Bundles are a great way to promote product discovery from either new inventory or low-sellers without making them a free gift with purchase.
If you have a product with low views/sales it would be worthwhile investigating which top selling product(s) this can pair with within a bundle to start getting it out to customers. For example, if you have a new product range you could support the launch by pairing it with high sellers in a Introduction Bundle to your brand.
Gifting
A fun way to utilise Shopify Bundles is through gifting bundles, for example:
The Bundle for Him/Her
Valentine’s Day Bundle
Father’s Day Bundle
To use events throughout the year or bundles aimed at those gifting for a friend or partner is a great way to curate the customer experience for these customers and push them in the right direction during the product research.
Within the ecosystem
Finally, utilising the existing Shopify ecosystem is the key to making the most of any Shopify App you use and that is no different with Bundles. Two quick ideas;
Using Klaviyo to send out special discounted unlisted Bundles to VIP Segments in place of running a full discounted sale.
Using Octane AI you could create a personalised product bundle finder quiz that helps the customer discover their most relevant pre-made bundle as an introduction to your brand. A cosmetics brand could utilise this one to great effect creating curated skincare routine bundles specific to their skin type and goals with unlisted bundles for every possible combination.
And there we have it, that is how to potentially utilise Shopify Bundles which you can now download for your store free through this link.
